Lemont Junior Woman's Club and Lemont Township Scarecrow Trail

The LJWC and Lemont Township Scarecrow Trail is an annual scarecrow contest held at the Lemont Heritage and Woodland Sanctuary in the months of September and October during which the Lemont community is encouraged to participate by building a scarecrow and/or voting for their favorite scarecrow.  Cash prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and winning scarecrows are then displayed at the Village of Lemont Trick or Treating event on Oct. 26th, 2024 in downtown Lemont.  The Lemont Junior Woman's Club is grateful for the partnership between our club, the Lemont Juniorettes, and the Lemont Township in order to put on this wonderful event each fall.

2024 LJWC and Lemont Township Scarecrow Trail Contest Dates & Information:

Registration: Online applications (please see below) and payment are due by September 14th, 2024 (this is also one of the scarecrow frame pick-up days).

Registration Fees: There is a $25 entry fee for families and organizations, and $50 entry fee for businesses (payable by credit card, check, Zelle, or cash).

Scarecrow Pick-up: A six-foot tall wooden frame (in the shape of a cross) is provided to build your scarecrow.  You can pick up your scarecrow frame at the Lemont Township Community Center (16300 Alba Street) on Saturday, September 7th, between 9 - 11 am or Saturday, September 14th, between 9 - 11 am.  If you will be unable to pick-up your wooden frame on either of these dates, please contact ljwccommunityoutreach@gmail.com to arrange an alternate pick-up date.

Scarecrow Drop-off: Completed (or nearly finished) scarecrows are due on Thursday, September 19th, 2024 between 4-7 pm to the Lemont Heritage and Woodland Sanctuary at 16300 Alba Street, Lemont.  Lemont Township employees will attach your scarecrow to a metal post pre-staked in the Sanctuary and after which, you are free to put any remaining finishing touches on the scarecrow on Friday or Saturday morning (prior to 10 am, if possible).  Scarecrow locations are provided on a first-come-first-served basis.  A yard sign indicating the name of your scarecrow will be provided and installed by the Lemont Township.

Community Voting: Community scarecrow voting begins September 21st - October 19th, 2024. 

LJWC Scarecrow Fest:  Sept. 21st is the date of the FREE LJWC Scarecrow Fest (from 12-3 pm) at the Lemont Heritage and Woodland Sanctuary.  Please click here for more info.  In addition, the Lemont Juniorettes will also be hosting their annual Monster and Me Mile Fun Run beginning at 12 pm during the fest. Awards:

Cash prizes will be awarded as follows:  1st place - $125, 2nd place - $75, and 3rd place - $50.

*Winners will be contacted by LJWC by October 22nd, 2024. Winning scarecrows will be moved by the Lemont Township to the downtown Lemont Trick or Treating Event on October 26th, 2024 to be displayed (the scarecrows will be returned to the Lemont Township Community Center following the trick or treating event).

Scarecrow Removal: Scarecrows must be removed from the Lemont Heritage and Woodland Sanctuary by November 2nd, 2024 or they will be discarded by the Lemont Township.
